The Zoo Trip of Failed Photos

A trip to the zoo is a big deal for us, an event that sometimes doesn't happen for years at a time. But once it's planned, there's a frenzy of activity and planning for it. Picnic stuff is essential, entertainment for the car as we travel, sunscreen, and of course, cameras. Mustn't forget the cameras. Of course we have to take a million photos.

But photography, in my case, never goes to plan. I stand next to the cage, camera at the ready. It's the perfect shot. I hold my breath for a second, press the button and...the animal has moved.

Try again. It's a koala. That's not going to move out of the shot. This time I'm certain of a beautiful picture. Or not, as my hand jiggles and the photo comes out fuzzy.

No luck with the rest of the photos either, as the animals move, or my hand shakes, or the sun's simply in the wrong spot.

Occasionally a good enough photo miraculously appears among the many bad ones, fluky shots not captured through any skills of my own. Obviously being able to take good photographs is not one of my skills. But then, why worry about taking good photos, when I can have a bunch of bad ones, and a great time spending a day with my family?

  1. They're certainly not fails in the realm of smiles and laughter! The third one (what is that little fellow, anyway?) charms my day. Super cute!

    1. They're certain to make me laugh whenever I see them. The third one is a red panda. He kept walking around so it was hard to get any sort of a photo of him, good or bad.

    1. They're certainly...unique. Maybe it's time I learnt how to use a camera properly!

  3. Ha, some animals are so hard to photograph! Have you ever tried taking pictures of monkeys? That can be a nightmare!

    1. All the monkeys were hiding from me because it was a bit cold. It was the koalas that kept jumping arund. I've neber seen them so lively!

  4. That's right! The memories will float through your mind far more often than you will look at those photos.
Did you get any of your thumb? I usually take at least two of those.

  5. Surprisingly I think my thumb is one of the few things I didn't get a photo of. That and the gorilla pretending to talk on a mobile phone.

  6. Holy cow, you got a red panda shot! That's a total win. Ours don't come out unless it's early morning or a cool evening and it's really hard to catch them. I like your other photos too. In fact, zoos are just generally full of awesome. :)

    1. It was a cool day when we went to the zoo so I guess the red pandas liked it. They kept moving around the cage so it was hard to get any kind of a photo of them.

Zoos are indeed full of awesome. Just not hte kind you can capture on a camera

  8. My son just recently purchased a (high dollar) camera that forgives even jittery handed camera holders like me. We used it for his wedding and I snapped pictures that weren't even blurry. (That doesn't happen often.) Looks like you at least have a steadier hand than I do.

P.S. Been trying (in vain) to touch base with you in a non-public fashion. Care to shoot me an email? I have a question/request for you. Addy is in my profile.

    1. A high dollar camera certainly sounds like the equipment for a wedding. you wouldn't want those photos turning out blurry.

Actually, to tell the truth, most of the time I was anxiously looking for something to lean on while I took photos, in the hopes that it would help. Didn't find many places though.

  10. The photography sounds like my last trip to the zoo - I couldn't seem to get a good shot of the animals! I did find a few good ones though, which is always nice.
I hope your arm feels better soon!

    1. It's always good when you manage to find a few good ones. I have a couple of good ones, some that can be saved with editing, and the rest are all like these in the post. But I don't really mind.
