Camping Again

July has simply flown away. I don't know where all the days has got to. But with the approach of August comes the approach of something else, something very exciting. August Camp NaNoWriMo! Yes, I'm gearing up for the start of more NaNo.

Having NaNo in two months so close feels a bit strange. Only a month in between camps in which to res and recover and prepare for next camp. But at the same time it keeps the writing streak going longer. And certainly, by the end of this camp I'll have plenty of novels to work on before November.

NaNoWriMo has helped me get plenty of first drafts out already. It feels like all I am doing is drafting sometimes, but I'm also experimenting. I'm learning more about novel writing by actually writing. And, despite what it feels like, I'm working on the finished novels, slowly and surely. Certainly though, I think after this camp, it might be time to learn more about the editing side of things and make some of these novels all pretty and shiny and finished.

But for now, there is August Camp. Anyone else joining me on the virtual campsite for next month's challenge?

  1. Good luck! By the time August hits, I will be done with my BuNo project and in the middle of revisions.

    1. Thanks. I'm quite excited to get writing again.

I'm glad to hear you're almost finished with your BuNo project.

  2. Is there any secret to finishing 100 pages in a month? If I could do it, I would try. (Still plodding along. Up to 47 chapters now.) Besides carrying a typer gadget around everywhere, I mean.

    1. The only secret I've found is that you basically forget about making your writing good and focus on just writing the words down. Also making a certain time to sit down and write and sticking to it every day. And then just writing. That's the only way I know of doing it.

Let me know if you do decide to do it. I love knowing other people doing these things.

    2. Yeah, I'm thinking of it. I was going to use a prompt I tried to write and try to turn it into a sequel of my current work. Sound interesting?

    3. It sounds very interesting. Camp NaNoWriMo would be a great time to try that
How far are you from the end of your current work?

  3. Good luck! I'm probably going to skip August CampNaNo because I have too much to do, but I will enjoy hearing about your progress!

    1. Thanks Kyra. I can imagine you have a lot to do with your blog tour. Are you still planning on doing NaNoWriMo in November?

  4. I'm going to be participating in Camp NaNoWriMo this month - I'm super excited! I've been in a writing slump for awhile now, and I can't wait to finally get something written! :D What's your NaNo username?

    1. I'm so excited too! And you're doing it too, which makes it even more exciting. Camp NaNo is so good for getting people writing again.

My NaNo username is Jane Bennet. What's yours?

    2. I'm LadyOfWords. I'd add you as a writing buddy, but I guess it doesn't work that way with Camp NaNo... ;) However, I added you as a buddy on the main NaNo site!

    3. I added you too. Yes, Camp NaNo seems to be very different to NaNo. The buddy system would be nice on the camp site too.

    4. I thought so, too, at first, but now I'm starting to get excited about being assigned "cabin mates". :) I hope I get some neat people, haha. ;) Did you have cabin mates in June? How did you like it?

    5. Cabin mates can be really fun. In June, I had a dead cabin, where no one talked at all really. But I have my August cabin now, and everyone talks, which is great. Meeting new people through the cabins can be great fun

    6. Your August cabin sounds fantastic, so glad you like it! My cabin mates haven't been assigned yet; still waiting for that. I hope I get a few people who like to chat, maybe participate in a few word-wars, etc. ;)

    7. Have you set your cabin preferences yet? Just wondering, because if you have, you should already have a cabin. And word wars are so much fun. I wish you luck in getting a great cabin

    8. Hey Imogen - yeah, I had, but I guess mine just took a bit longer. I logged in today and had a cabin, so now it's all good! ;) Have you gotten a chance to work on your novel yet?

  5. Another one? How many NaNos are there? Afraid I'm pressed for time to participate, but best of luck to you! :)

    1. There's three NaNo's a year, NaNo in November, Camp in June, and Camp in August. That's probably enough for me, otherwise I'll never get onto editing anything!
