Blogging Ghosts

It's morning tea time. Time to do the blogging rounds. I check my blog feeds, read new posts, and jump out of the blogosphere leaving no trace behind. No, not even one comment. I'm the blogging ghost.

It's not that I don't like what people have written. It's not that I haven't anything to say. It's merely that I don't bother to take the time to write a few short lines in the comment box. I prefer to stay anonymous.

I wonder how many people like that read my blog. I wonder how many people dance through the blogosphere, silent and unseen. Probably many more than stop and say hello.

I love it when people stop on my blog and leave a comment. Even when it's just one line, it still makes my day to read it. And if it makes my day, it'll make other people's days too. There's no reason for my ghosting, other than laziness. Taking a few moments to write a comment doesn't take much effort. But, if the other person is like me, they'll enjoy receiving the comment.

I'm going to make an effort now. I'm making a resolution. No more blogging ghosting for me. I'm going to become a comment, am already trying now. I'm going to try and make someone's day a little bit brighter, one comment at a time.

Do you ghost through the blogosphere like me? Or are you more social? Do comments make your day, or aren't you bothered?

  1. There's no way not to leave a comment on a post like this. :)

I sort of "ghost" through the blogosphere, too. Even if I really like a post, I usually just can't think of anything to say. It's terrible. But after a while you get tired of saying "that's so pretty!" over and over again, and you can't think of anything else.

  2. Hi Imogen

I often ghost around the blogoshpere as well, but I try (and often fail) to leave a comment every now and then.

I also love getting comments :)

  3. I definitely flit through blogs, silent and unnoticed, although I do try to leave a comment because I love getting them.

  4. Victoria, I didn't really think about the commenting factor with this post. But I think you're right. It's got three comments already!

I don't generally have a problem with thinking of something to say. Normally I either don't want to say it in case the person thinks it's silly, or I can't be bothered.

  5. Legolas, you've always been pretty good at putting comments on my blog. I love getting comments. I always get such a thrill to find a comment sitting waiting for me.

  6. Magdalen, sometimes I flit because I haven't got time to comment, though that's pretty rare. Sometimes I just don't want to put a comment on that post. But I really, really need to improve. We all love hearing back from people.

  7. I always try to leave a comment. Unless my internet is to slow or I have nothing encouraging or nice to say.

  8. Autumn, you're so much better than me. I'm so lazy in that way. I'll have to follow your example in commenting.

  9. I'm a relutant ghoster myself, but I might as well try harder, like now, 'cause i think I've mentioned about a bajillion times how my blogs live for comments. I need to know what people ae liking about the story. There I go again...:)

  10. JT, I've found that leaving comments on other peoples blogs helps readers find your blog. It might be worth trying not ghosting for a bit and see if that helps your blog.

  13. HI Imogen, it is interesting to check one's own blog for comments and then go to the stats page and you can see that many people have visited your blog that day, that week, that month... but the majority do not comment. I pray that they are blessed when they visit mine and are inspired in some way to deepen their love of Christ.

    Blessings!

  14. Noreen, I always find more page views than comments when I look at my stats. I've started thinking of them as two very separate things. I treasure every comment and commenter, and hope that those who came and didn't leave a comment enjoyed my blog anyway. I'm sure people are very inspired by your blog, even if they don't stop and comment.

  15. I really dislike being a blog ghost. I will always leave my trace around the blogosphere. I'm always running around the blogosphere commenting and following some writer blog.

I enjoy reading blogs. Six months ago, I didn't read blogs and more than ever, I constantly read blogs. I find joy in reading and commenting in blogs. Yes, yes, yes, it's time consuming but if it makes my blog known and I gain a follower, it's well worth it! :)

    1. It is always good to comment and read blogs, isn't it? I still have to remember to comment sometimes, but I'm getting much better than I was. And it's surprising sometimes how many people connect with you through a simple comment, isn't it?
